Hosakerehalli Lakespread across 59 Acres and 26 Guntas, is under the jurisdiction of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). The lake is in Survey No 15 of Hosakerehalli Village, Uttarahalli Hobli, Bengaluru South Taluk, Bengaluru Urban District.
As per the ‘Waterbodies Inventorisation in Bengaluru Metropolitan Area (BMA)’, a report done by the Environmental Management and Policy Research Institute (EMPRI), which is a Karnataka state government research wing under the Department of Forest Ecology and Environment, the lake was created around 1903, at an elevation of 834 meters. It has 2 inlets and one outlet, as shown in the lake profile image below.
Currently, the lake is dry. The lake’s inlets that carry raw wastewater (domestic wastewater, industrial wastewater & solid waste) from the catchment are diverted via a bypass channel, as shown in the lake profile image below, to the downstream Vrishabhavathi River. The lake was recently in the news when BBMP, the lake’s custodian & guardian, tried to build a road across the lake.
