Begur Lake, located in Bengaluru South Taluk of Bengaluru Urban District, lies within the Bommanahalli constituency. This lake faces critical challenges, including encroachment for agriculture, residential development, graveyards, and the NICE Road.
Moreover, the lake suffers from direct pollution sources, such as the dumping of construction debris, which severely impacts its ecological health. The lake is part of the River Dakshina Pinakini’s catchment and holds both historical and religious importance. One of its notable landmarks is the Shri Panchalinga Nageshwara Temple, renowned for its heritage and historical inscriptions. Intriguingly, the first recorded mention of the name “Bengaluru” appears in one of these inscriptions, highlighting the lake’s cultural significance.
Rakshith Pawar, a local resident, generously contributed drone and other images that have been incorporated into this lake profile. His efforts provide a vivid visual perspective of Begur Lake’s current state. We would like to thank Laasya, a computer science student who volunteered to curate the Begur lake profile.
